Jonny Harper graduated from Cardiff University with a 1st class Honours degree in Physiotherapy, and since then has been working in the musculoskeletal and sports sector. Soon after graduation, Jonny began working in a private orthopaedic hospital in South Wales, and through this role has built a wealth of experience in the management and rehabilitation of post-operative clients, from the big toe all the way up to the neck. Jonny has also managed polytrauma patients with complex injuries using a combination of hydrotherapy, gym-based rehabilitation, and specialist equipment including an anti-gravity treadmill.
Jonny has a broad range of experience treating all musculoskeletal conditions, however over his career has developed a special interest in the lower limb, particularly the management and rehabilitation of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries. Alongside his role at Agile Jonny continues to work in orthopaedic medicine, and is the Lead Physiotherapist for Hockey Wales, primarily looking after the Senior Women’s international squad. Jonny also works on an ad-hoc basis for GB Hockey and the Welsh Institute for Sport based at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Due to his experience working in these settings Jonny has also developed a clinical interest in the female athlete, including concussion management, lower limb injury risk, menstrual cycle dysfunction, and the management of athletes with relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S).
Jonny has completed a post graduate qualification in acupuncture, and is currently in the final research phase of a Masters qualification in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Bath. Other experience includes working for Dragons Rugby, Crosskeys RFC, Badminton Wales, and as a soft tissue practitioner for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, alongside a host of other professional and semi-professional Rugby Union and League teams in South Wales. This wide-ranging experience has given Jonny a depth of knowledge around the acute management of injuries, and rehabilitation of these thereafter in both the recreational and elite athlete.
Jonny has previously been involved with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) as a representative to Welsh Board, alongside holding the role of Chairman for the student physiotherapist population in the South West of England and Wales. He has also held a seat on the CSP Student Executive Committee for the UK.
In his spare time, you’ll find Jonny out running or on his road bike, in the gym, or on the golf course! Jonny is also a keen skier and snowboarder having spent a season working in the French Alps. Jonny’s love of food resulted in Jonny setting up an events catering business in 2014, alongside working as a private chef for clients in the UK and abroad for many years.
