Continuing on with our staff education series, Agile Therapy’s team dietitian Aisling Pigott put on a great talk on dietetics for us last Sunday evening.

Firstly, we discussed how Dietitians are a regulated, protected profession, who practice evidence based treatment, and are able to provide you with the latest in research to help you achieve your goals, whether they be eating healthier, or ensuring you’re getting enough nutrients for your training demands. This differs to unregistered nutritionists or nutritional therapists who are not regulated, and do not have to answer to a professional body. More information on the distinction can be found on the British Dietetics Association website.

Aisling then went on to talk about her interest in sport nutrition, for which she has had post-graduate training and current lectures in Sports Nutrition at the University of South Wales. She discussed how a dietitian can help athletes ensure that they are taking in the proper amount of macro and micro nutrients to keep them performing at their best.

Lastly, she went through what clients can expect during a typical consultation. She ensures that her consultations are person specific, non-judgemental, supportive, and help to provide realistic direction and motivation on how to achieve your goals. If you think you could benefit from a consultation with our dietitian, or are curious and have further questions, please feel free to contact us at info@agiletherapy.com.
